The first of the fabulous Florida Keys and the “Scuba Diving Capital of the US”. Key Largo is home to the world’s largest artificial reef, the 510-foot USS Spiegel Grove, John Pennekamp Coral Reef Underwater State Park and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Scuba diving and snorkeling in the clear waters off of Key Largo is amazing with the abundance of aquatic life on the numerous different reefs. Watersport activities also include fishing (backcountry, reef and blue water) kayaking and paddle boarding. Everglades National Park is just a short trip away from Key Largo. Key Largo boasts some of the most fascinating scenery in the state.
Key Largo comes from the Spanish Cayo Largo, or “long key”.
